About Drasko Regul

Drasko Regul i'm an elderly english-teacher early retired due misability, seeking a way to express himself through art. actually, this self-prescribed therapy made me a newly discovered wannabe-artist (i do feel as an artist, but live for art so far, not from art, no matter how small this income may be!) i wanted to avoid mentioning my misability since i think it has nothing to do with art, but 1.: it directly led me to artistry; 2.: i feel i owe an explanation regarding some issues in my photography: i'm a quadriplegic (locked-in syndrome), 'arting' only on my computer with my forehead driving a hands-free mouse. i reactivated as a photographer in 2008, using a camera+pan/tilt stand attached to my computer. this is the reason why my photos are so hm... monotonous - they show only events/people/objects found in my room, they are all shot from the same spot by my bed! in the course of taking photos there are many actions which i cannot perform, leaving many desired features unaccomplished. in order to make up for this i do much of digital postprocessing! i improved my previously acquired skills of photoshopping, and developed a genuine style of manipulating my photos: my way of blessing the motif of each photo displayed here - be it people, flowers, shadows, whatever! actually, they build very personal albums that show the beauty i find in my seemingly dull bonus-life. they are primarily organized (and should be perceived) as particles of larger projects. still, i feel that many of them are also good enough to stand in public alone, torn out from their context, so i dared to publish them here!...

still later, in 2012, i plunged into the fractals world. this opened a quite different chapter in my 'artistry', documenting this time my subconsciousness, imagination and playfulness. the very fact that i cannot draw/paint elaborate, detailed patterns and scenes anymore (either with models or directly out from my head) frustrated me at first (just like sudden inability to pluck the strings of my guitar), but the fractal art offered attractive alternative: creating interesting patterns and scenes that build order from chaos. true, the procedure is somewhat weird - the artist doesn't first see in his mind his artwork how he wants to be done, but rather plays with numbers+formulas according to which the computer plots something. and then (s)he develops this something - merely as a purely abstract pattern, or as a more suggestive image that points more openly to the direction of association. all this, of course, following certain rules of composition and colors arrangement set during history of art!...
eventually i did reach certain level of skill in digital drawing/painting, and i'm consequently combining fractals with overall computer graphics, enhancing them to various degrees.
so, i'm a digital artist exclusively!...

even more personal info is available on my personal web !)

the last but not the least - this pensioner tries in this dignifying way to gain some weight in his meagre retirement-account (which is too low for supporting family).

certain extension of my photographic/fractalistic activity can be seen in videos in my youtube channel:

note: fineartsamerica-watermark will not be seen on the prints! nevertheless, the above mentioned 'blessing' puts on all images my signature: two symbols, barely notable, almost subliminally hidden - my logo (built around my nickname - drnda) and my trade-mark, a dandelion's seed! should a potential buyer wish a print without them, they can be easily removed - just contact me, please! :-}
